Cantu does the most
Town Councilmember Cantu is doing the most. Very few citizens were there to witness it when she was censured recently by her colleagues who complain that she’s doing too much.
This attempt at intimidation seems to be the men’s sole bold act since the new council was seated in March 2016. Why take so much personal risk for a three minute meeting? When in the town’s history has a meeting been so hastily scheduled? Why the rush? Why limit the number of citizens in attendance?
Ms. Cantu made every effort to warn her colleagues that they were meeting in violation of the law. Because they have violated the Open Meeting Act, councilmembers Hahn, Fernandez and Evans are personally liable.
The community paid them $60,000 last year, $20,000 per councilmember.
The state has defunded public education. Federal cuts are coming. It’s up to all adults of conscience to fill the void. If the young people of the town have begun meeting weekly to try to figure out how to fight depression, we owe them equal seriousness and urgency.
I pray the people get their $60,000 back and spend it on youth land-trusts and youth co-ops.
Please don’t stop your inquiries on behalf of your neighbors, Councilmember Judith Cantu. Had last week’s meeting not been kept secret, many of us, women and men, would have been there with you.
