Embudo Valley Library seeks $20K to maintain services
Officials and volunteers with the Embudo Valley Library in Dixon are asking for support.
The library needs to raise $20,000 to maintain its current level of services. “We’ve already raised $5,000. Please help us reach our goal and keep our doors open,” said a statement from the library, which has a number of programs and services.
Support for families
Through a variety of literacy programs, Embudo Valley provides a year-round educational safety net for families. Educational opportunities include the summer reading program and after-school program.
Economic development, teen services
This past summer, six local youth earned $24,000 in the first-ever Youth Conservation Corps project. Officials say the youth worked through intense summer heat to beautify the library’s property and create a welcoming outdoor space for community use. New programs for youth in 2017, say officials, include a youth oral history project and library makerspace. “Partnering with Northern New Mexico College STEM Mentor Collective, we will soon have a college student mentor helping us use a new 3-D printer and robot,” said officials.
Early literacy, school readiness
Embudo Valley’s “STEM to Read” early literacy program helps pre-K-aged children develop letter and number recognition, pre-reading skills, large and fine motor skills and social skills — all of which will help them when they start school.
Lifelong learning
Last year, officials say the library hosted 39 events through its evening cultural series, with diverse offerings such as archaeology lectures, educational movies and presentations, author readings and more.
Embudo Valley Library is located at 217-A State Highway 75, about 26 miles from Taos. More information is available at embudovalleylibrary.org or by calling (505) 579-9181.
