Holy Cross cartoon ‘distressing’
It’s distressing to see shallow reporting in The Taos News on institutions that are as critical to our well-being as Holy Cross Hospital.
The editorial cartoon that appeared a couple weeks ago showing a patient being thrown out of a hospital bed after four days simply misrepresents the truth. Most rural hospitals use the critical access designation for the simple reason that it provides better compensation for health services we desperately need.
Holy Cross CEO Bill Patten has repeatedly explained that there are simple remedies for limitations of critical access. Why is this so hard for some to understand? Perhaps it is because we are so inclined to believe the worst. Skepticism and concern are great, but there really is no excuse for conveying false information in an award-winning local newspaper.
