Importance of time and health — treasures that are lost with age

Posted

The day we are born, we are given the two most important assets in life that we will ever receive. They are time and health.

It would be difficult to prioritize and evaluate which of the two are most important, but it is a valid assumption that as we accumulate a chronological number of years in our life, we are going to lose both. In some instances we have a degree of control of health by dietary choices, physical exercise, lifestyle,  etc. — but every day that we live, we dissipate a fractional amount of time we are allocated.

The day we are born, some supreme being has issued a checking account allocating a specific amount of time that we are allowed to be here on this giant rock called earth. Each one of us has complete control in the amount and number of checks we write against this account. So in reality, each one of us has some degree of control over both health and time.

If you were to question any senior citizen in a retirement community or assisted living center with a choice, perhaps the most valuable and important assets they have lost would be time and health. Neither money, tangible assets, or stuff that we accumulate through life have either value or importance if we do not have time and health. Unfortunately, and generally speaking, by the time humans are able to fully appreciate the value of these assets their health has dissipated and their checkbook of time has been overdrawn. These are the true treasures of life that will be lost forever.

To fully appreciate the beauty of life and importance of health and time, we must realize that we are the captains of our individual ship and have complete control of its course and ultimate destination. By the way we manage the importance of time and health, we each have the ability to pilot our ship into either stormy weather to be lost forever, or into a sea of peace and tranquility.
