Kit Carson internet restored after multi-day outage
Kit Carson’s fiber optic internet service has been restored following an outage that impacted parts of Arroyo Hondo, Arroyo Seco and Questa.
According to Luis Reyes, CEO of Kit Carson, about 500 customers lost service for about 36-hours between Dec. 20 to Dec. 22 because of a failure of hardware at two of the co-op’s substations.
Reyes said there are about 4,000 Kit Carson internet customers.
Speaking of the state of the fiber optic lines themselves, Reyes said “the lines are fine.”
He said the co-op and a third-party company in Dallas, which holds the warranty on the hardware, are still assessing the root cause of the outage.
“After the analysis, we’ll determine where the fault lies,” he said. Reyes added that the issue of reimbursing customers for the time the internet was down will also be addressed in the analysis process, which will take until at least mid-January.
