Letter from the coach

We would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Arcenio J. Trujillo for promoting and honoring the Central Catholic Falcons on the 50th anniversary of winning the state basketball championship. The halftime ceremony and banquet were overwhelming. The rivalry Central had with Taos High all came to an end when we went to state. The Tigers and their fans were with us all the way to the championship.

The memories of that time made such an imprint on my life, and is a true testament to what a close community can achieve with hard work and dedication.

A special thanks to the following people who made it a memorable evening: Taos Tigers athletic director Nickie McCarty, Taos High Principal Robert V. Trujillo, Rep. Robert “Bobby” Gonzales, Mayor Dan Barrone, Joe Butler, the Taos Tigers and the Taos fans.

My assistant coach [and now-deceased wife] Barbara, who was voted “assistant coach of the year” in 1967 was our biggest inspiration.
