Letter-writing campaign a success

I want to thank The Taos News for publicizing the Amnesty International “Write For Rights” event held at SOMOS Dec. 10 — International Human Rights Day.

About 25 people attended, and we wrote 67 letters of appeal on behalf of victims of human rights abuses. Further, we wrote 26 letters of encouragement to the individual victims themselves.

I thank Jan Smith, executive director of SOMOS, for her support and for making the SOMOS salon available. Many thanks also to Jeff Northrup for his signs, which I believe were very helpful in bringing the event to people’s attention. And great credit must go to Susan Nuss, whose knowledge about organizing events and energy for getting things done were vital to the good results we had.

We look forward to future work for human rights.
