Love of area prompt Angel Fire couple to tie knot at Gorge Bridge
Patti Rose Kane and her husband Michael Kane were married at the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge on Valentine's Day.
"We have known each other for 20-plus years and are originally from a suburb outside of Cleveland, Ohio, called Chagrin Falls," said Rose Kane. "We started dating about 11 years ago and fell head over heels for each other and have been together ever since." The couple have lived in Angel Fire for many years.
Rose Kane said her husband was diagnosed with a very rare cancer called "uveal melonoma" in 2009. She said about 1,200 cases are diagnosed globally.
"In 2015 it metastasized to his liver and has been aggressively spreading. We traveled extensively for treatments but now that road has come to a screeching halt and comfort is our only goal," she said. "Michael has a zest for life and is a character with a wonderful sense of humor. He always makes anyone feel special wherever he is."
She said the two enjoy skiing, snow shoeing, hiking and "just being out and about in the mountains."
"We've always wanted to get married but this disease got in our way," said Rose Kane. "So Michael said we're going to get married on the Gorge Bridge, and we did. It was just so us to do it this way. So now I am preparing to say goodbye to my love, my partner, my best friend, my husband. He came into this world with love and he is leaving with even more."
