Questa officials say progress made on water outages
Village of Questa officials say they are making strides to resolve the ongoing water outages that have affected a majority of the village for weeks.
"Overnight there were substantial gains in water storage, all pressures held and were checked every three hours," read a statement released Saturday. "Pressures on north areas of village continue to stabilize and hold. Pressures at the High School hydrant continue to climb and stabilized. At 8 a.m. [Saturday] the tank was at approximately 275,000 gallons, which now provides an adequate reserve storage to begin to slowly and methodically backfill additional lines and provide more areas of the village with water service. This is another major step in bringing the system back to operating equilibrium," the statement read.
Officials said the immediate goals were to bring homes and businesses along Highway 522 and Embargo Road back into service.
"We will be checking all pressure fluctuations and flows, monitoring for leaks and correcting valve adjustments. We will also continue repairs of valves along North Kiowa above Highway 38," the statement read. "Once repairs and checks are complete and Highway 522 and Embargo road are back into service we will bring the homes within this zone back into service. Pressure fluctuation and flows, monitoring for leaks and correcting valve adjustments will continue throughout this project."
Officials said they will continue to search for the the "suspected major breach(s)" along the river on the far side south of the village.
"Lines are cautiously being back filled and recharged isolating and identifying the damaged lines and valves. Unfortunately several homes along the river will continue to be without water through the long weekend but we are working our hardest to resolve this," the statement read.
