Raise a glass to future Taos Clay artists
Taos Clay Studio’s annual benefit for its resident artist program is in its fourth year.
On Feb. 11 from 7-10:30 p.m., The Burger Stand at Taos Ale House and Taos Clay will host “pint night.” The event includes handmade pint glasses and a silent auction with work by local artists. There will be prize baskets and live music by Brent Berry and the Neighbors.
Organizers say $20 will get participants the handmade pint glass and the first beer free. Prize baskets include a punch card to High Altitude Fitness, a gift certificate to World Cup Coffee, ceramic items and more.
Proceeds will send Taos Clay’s three resident artists to Portland, Oregon, for the annual National Council on the Education of Ceramic Arts (NCECA) conference.
“NCECA is one of the largest gatherings of artists on the planet, and will offer our residents a wealth of knowledge that they will bring back to further serve Taos and the surrounding communities,” organizers said in a news release.
Taos Clay offers three full-time resident artist positions to emerging clay artists. For seven years, Taos Clay’s residency has attracted artists from around the country to gain experience in managing the day-to-day operations of a community clay studio. All residents are offered a semiprivate studio space, free firings, wholesale materials, paid teaching opportunities and the opportunity to sell their work in the gallery in exchange for 20 to 25 hours of work per week.
“The residency at Taos Clay offers artists a supportive environment to explore and develop in their personal work while gaining insight into the business of making art,” the release said. “Residents must demonstrate a willingness to work with the local community, and a desire to grow in their own work. They must bring a high level of professionalism and competency to the studio that enriches the quality of our programs and facility. Residents must also demonstrate a willingness to adapt to a growing studio with ever changing needs and expectations.”
Taos Ale House is located at 401 Paseo del Pueblo Norte in Taos. Taos Clay is located at 1208 Paseo del Pueblo Norte in El Prado.
