The New Mexico State Senate has confirmed Taos native and advocate for conservation and agricultural issues, Patricia L. Quintana, to the State Land Office’s State Lands Trust advisory board.

State Land Commissioner Aubrey Dunn appointed Quintana to represent the agricultural community citing her vast experience in farming and ranching and rural land and water issues.

Quintana earned degrees in animal science and agriculture at New Mexico State University. In 2005, she was an executive fellow of Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.

She is the owner and operator of Rancho La Fina Lamb and Wool, La Cuchilla Farm and De La Tierra Consulting.

She has consulted around the globe, including Mexico, Spain, Ecuador, the Republic of Mali in West Africa, and the Republics of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, among others, in an effort to link agriculture to economic development, a news release said.

She serves as a board member for the Taos Valley Acequia Association and as a member of the New Mexico Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission. She was honored as one of the “Remarkable Women of Taos” and has been recognized by the New Mexico Commission on the Status of Women and the New Mexico Legislature for her contributions to the ag industry in New Mexico.
