Taos Retirement Village does it well
It's been three weeks since I came back home from the rehab. Recovering from major surgery is not only a time of pain and general misery, but also a time for reflection.
It took me longer than I would like to reflect on how much I appreciate the amazing care I received at Taos Retirement Village. It's a nursing home, skilled nursing facility, professional physical therapy unit, place where they feed you, change your bed, wash your clothes, make sure you get your meds, check your vitals two times a day, hold your hand when you get a panic attack, help you take a shower, and do your hair. They worry when they notice you haven't been eating, even asking what else could they bring you.
Unlike many places, there is no smell of illness in the air. It's roomy with quality furnishings in common areas. It's a place where the hard working and very tired CNAs (certified nursing assistants) keep saying loving words in two languages, in the middle of the night, sometimes while changing a diaper of a resident with advanced dementia. People in this place, starting from cleaning crew, kitchen staff, and CNAs all the way to the management, not only do their jobs well, they do it with TLC.
It is a good place, a place which makes a difference in patient's lives, a place where you can take a deep breath and let them take care of you. They know what to do and they do it well.
