Once again, Taos Integrated School of the Arts (TISA) students celebrated the Chinese New Year with a traditional New Year’s lunch and art show.

The TISA students spent the previous week immersed in the traditions, geography and culture of China. The final day of the unit, students made artwork celebrating the 2017 “Year of the Rooster” to hang on the walls of Yu Garden restaurant.

Amanda Yu, owner of the popular local restaurant, not only shares her delicious food with the students, but also her own favorite traditions of the holiday. Yu gave each child a decorative red envelope with money, New Year’s candies and rice cookies, as is done among families in China during the two-week celebration.

The TISA students had little to say when asked how they liked the lunch, as mouths were busy feasting on noodles and chicken fried rice!
