Update: Taos on two hour delay; Questa, Penasco schools close

Posted

After an overnight storm rolled into the area bringing in heavy snowfall, Taos Municipal Schools, Taos Academy and UNM-Taos will be on a two-hour delay today, officials said early Tuesday morning.

Later Tuesday morning, Questa Independent Schools decided to close for the day after initially issuing a two-hour delay. So did Penasco Independent Schools, Taos Integrated School of the Arts (TISA) and Taos International.

Charter schools in the Taos area typically adhere to the delays and closures of Taos schools. Other schools that are on a delay include Taos Day School and Taos Pueblo Head Start.

Snow rolled into Taos County and the northern mountains in the late evening hours Monday, and continued to fall throughout most of the night, with several inches of snow accumulation.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for the area until noon Tuesday.

A 40 percent chance for snow is expected throughout the day Tuesday, with a high of 30 degrees expected at about 3 p.m.
