Ziggy’s frozen yogurt making Taos debut
While the weather might not scream for cold treats at the moment, make a note for the warmer temperatures in the months ahead.
Ziggy's, a frozen yogurt shop, is planning to open in Taos this spring. The store is located at 1008A Paseo del Pueblo Sur, next to Taos Java and across the street from the Storyteller Cinema 7. It is being built out now.
Ziggy's is co-owned by Bowe Ellis and Steve Kennebeck.
“This will be a full blown, locally owned and operated 'froyo' shop,” the pair said in a statement. “We'll have 15 flavors of froyo (and gelato and sorbet) and an extensive toppings bar. We'll include Taos-centric toppings like biscohitos, churros, pinion, red chili raspberry sauce (and maybe even chicharones) to provide a unique, local twist.” The format is self-serve, they said.
Ellis said his “silly and larger-than-life" pug Ziggy inspired the idea. “She's going to be quite the fixture, and with the help of some Taos digital media talent, we will have fun stories and videos to share on social media,” he said. “Most importantly, Ziggy's is our expression of our love for Taos. It will be a homegrown local business — a clean, safe place for families and kids — and a late night place to enjoy a treat. We care about community and want everyone to enjoy coming,” Ellis added.
The owners said they will feature local art and a special mural created by a group of creative students and artists. They are also asking future customers to tell them what flavors and toppings they like, via their Facebook page — search “ziggysfroyo.”
